Why write Poetry?

Why write poetry?

There are times when my mind will not be still,

when thoughts race beyond control of will.

At such times I need to regain control,

to reinstate harmony between body, mind and soul.

The way I've found to remedy such anxiety,

is to simply sit and write some poetry.

It does not matter if its not that great

as long as it helps my mind's confusion to abate.

Not only does it calm my mind,

helps me leave my scattered thoughts behind.

But in addition for good measure,

provides me hours of simple pleasure.

Simple joy can from simple actions stem.

For some have told me that it does the same for them.

It does not matter if its not that great

as long as it helps my mind to concentrate.

Another spin off from my poetry,

is that it helps to spark my creativity.

For I find that once a poem has been conceived,

I feel a sense of something achieved.

And you might say such success is very small.

But I much prefer it to none at all.

So from time to time I will compose at my leisure,

and I hope it gives you, as it does to me, a little pleasure.
